  • Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) is a measure of the quantity of oxygen consumed by microorganisms during the decomposition of organic matter. BOD is the most commonly used parameter    for determining the oxygen demand on the receiving waste water.
  • Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) is a measure of quantity of oxygen used in biological and non-biological oxidation of materials in water. COD is used measure the waste water quality.

The COD values are greater than BOD values, but COD measurements can be made in a few hours while BOD measurements take five days.
